Goshinkan Ju-Jitsu Dojo Certified Instructors

Our Instructors have spent many years devoted to training in the art of Ju-Jitsu and other martial arts and have attained a certain level of expertise to qualify them as teachers and also mentors.

Through extensive testing, certification and tournament level competition, our staff has attained mastery in this martial art and now enjoy sharing their skill and passing it on to their students.

Shihan Jeff Lovering - 9th degree Black Belt
Owner, Founder and Chief Instructor

Director and chief instructor of Goshinkan Dojo, Shihan Jeff began his ju-jitsu training formally in 1976, and continues to train and study the art today. He received his 1st degree black belt in Goshin-Budo Ju-Jitsu in 1981. Currently, Shihan Jeff is an 9th degree black belt, also holding the title of Shihan, or master instructor, awarded to him from the International Federation of Practicing Ju-Jitsuans. He is also ranked as a 3rd degree black belt in Hara-Ha Buke Budo Kyokai. He holds a 2nd degree black belt in Rensei-Do, and 3rd Kyu ranking in Daito-Ryu Aiki-Ju-Jitsu Kodo Kai. Shihan Jeff was named to the Martial Arts Hall of Fame in 1996 as Ju-Jitsu's Man Of The Year, and commended for his outstanding contribution to the youth of the community. He is also the 2005 and 2007 recipient of the Samurai Award from the IFOJJ, for his excellence in teaching. Shihan Jeff is the director of the Freeport Recreation Center's Self Defense Program for children since 2000, and the director of the Twin Oaks Summer Camp Self Defense Program since 1988. Other certifications are as follows:

  • Licensed tactical master instructor in CDT

  • Personal safety instructor for "Training For Life"

  • Children’s personal safety instructor for "Know and Go", and "Bully Safe"

  • Provided training for Nassau County Corrections officers, Nassau County Police officers, New York City Police Officers, Port Authority Police officers, - New York State Court officers, and the U.S. Marshals Service.

  • Past President of the Bellmore Chamber of Commerce

  • Past President of the Bellmore Village Merchants Association.

  • Bellmore Festival Director - 1994

  • Directed and implemented security for the Bellmore Festival 1994-2004

  • Small Business Person of the Year - 1997

  • Numerous Citations and Awards for his work for the surrounding communities

  • Chosen from over 25,000 applicants to travel to Austin, Texas to meet and train as an advocate for cancer survivors at the Lance Armstrong Foundation's Livestrong Summit in 2006

Renshi Katie Carroll,- 4th degree Black Belt

Renshi Katie is the head instructor of the Goshinkan Mighty Dragons and Children’s Ju-Jitsu Programs. She has been training at Goshinkan Dojo since 1995, steadily rising through the ranks. She is Shihan Jeff’s "right hand" and a true leader. Gentle but deadly, Renshi Katie is a very accomplished martial artist.


Sensei Eileen Benze - 3rd Degree Black Belt

Sensei Eileen is the Dojo office manager. Sensei Eileen is a life-long educator, recently retiring after more than 35 successful years as a French teacher, in Suffolk County, NY. She is a 3rd degree black belt, having spent all of her years training under Shihan Jeff at Goshinkan Dojo. She began her training after watching her son and daughter attending classes with Shihan Jeff. She competed as an orange belt in a national self defense competition at an intermediate/advanced level, and was awarded first place. She continues her training today.

Sensei Eileen is also certified in "Training for Life", "CDT Stun and Run", and holds rank in Judo.

Sensei Dwayne Porter - 2nd degree Black Belt

Sensei Dwayne had been a student at Goshinkan as a young child. He returned to the Dojo as an adult, and resumed his training. He is a 2nd degree black belt, and assists with the children's classes. He is a dedicated martial artist, always striving to improve his techniques. He is a great role model for the kids, and the adults that also train at Goshinkan Dojo. Sensei Dwayne is also certified in "CDT Stun and Run", and "Training for Life."


Sensei Greg Wallis - 2nd degree Black Belt

Sensei Greg began his training at Goshinkan Dojo as a child, and continues his training today. He has helped with the children's program on Saturday for several years. He brings a strong positive attitude to children, and is an asset to the Dojo. Sensei Greg is also certified in "CDT Stun and Run", and "Training for Life".

Sensei James Gunnels, Jr. - 1st degree Black Belt

Sensei James has been a dedicated student since 2003. He assists with the instruction of all of our children’s classes. His leadership skills are an inspiration to all at our Dojo. He is an excellent role model for our younger students. Sensei James is certified in "Training for Life."

Remember, there are never any contracts at Goshinkan Dojo. Tuition is based on the number of classes attended per month.
